Mk II Vantage

The pre-order pages are now up and running! The pre-order is going to work a little differently this time because of the current backlog. The Swiss Made Vantage will be shipping first, approximately in the October/November 2007 timeframe. In the past the custom versions have shipped first but that isn’t possible given the number of product launches planned for this year. The custom Vantage will begin shipping roughly in January of 2008, which is where our current lead times place new custom watch orders at the moment. As a result the pre-order discount for the custom Vantage is higher than for the Swiss Made version. The custom versions will be scheduled together with other custom watches so the lead times might change quickly (especially when the Sea Fighter ordering opens later this month.)

The length of the pre-order period will depend upon overall demand and the beginning of a new phase for Mk II. Demand is a factor because of the industry wide shortage of mechanical movements for the foreseeable future.

Starting this winter we will begin a new phase in the continuing development of the Mk II brand; print advertising and an increased focus on marketing. Look for our first ad in WatchTime’s Nov/Dec issue!

  1. The photo shows black date wheel. Is that how the “Swiss Made” will be equipped or is the “Custom Vantage” the only way to get this option?

  2. The Swiss made version will have the black background, white number date wheel standard.

  3. Bill,
Can we pre-order the Sea Fighter right now, or do we have to wait for the page to be available?

    Thanks,
    Mike

  5. Bill,

Does the inside of the crystal on the “Swiss Made” version come with the anti-reflective coating?

    Thanks,
    J.G.

  6. Any idea when we’ll see ready-to-order swiss made Stingrays?

    Comment by Tim — August 13, 2007 @ 2:19 pm

  7. The Swiss Made version will have an un-coated crystal.

The Swiss Made Stingrays will probably go up on the site by the end of the month. I am working the Sea Fighter page at the moment and then will move onto the Stingray page. I am also trying to QC all the parts necessary for the Swiss assembler so that’s holding up further work on the web site. I want to get the parts shipped so that I have a better idea when to expect the watches back.

  8. I have ordered a GU10 and look forward to its arrival in November. But in the meantime I note that the model has disappeared from the webs site and I wondered if this meant it was no longer being produced after the current run. I ask because one or two friends were showing interest in the watch. Presumably the Vantage is very similar look though.
    Kind regards,
    John Sansom

  9. Hi John,

The watch is being discontinued in its present form. It will be re-designed. This was a good time to take it off the roster because we are low on cases bodies and I want to keep some in reserve in order to take care of service issues for current owners.

  10. Hi

I have already ordered my custom Vantage but was wondering why the standard Vantage costs more than all your other watches. It’s production cost must be lower as it has a fixed bezel and no bezel insert?

    Thanks

  11. Of all the insolent remarks…well I never!

Just kidding!!!!….that’s a really good question and a good observation. There are a few reasons….the primary reason is that prices are going up on existing models of Mk II watches starting November 1st to cover the cost of print advertising that we will be doing for pretty much the first time. However new models, including the Vantage and the Sea Fighter, are being launched at the new price structure. In other words come November 1st the prices for these models won’t change. I could have made all of the changes effective November 1st but the time required to update and test that many HTML pages would have been prohibitive going into the holiday season.

The other reason is that the case body of a watch designed to be paired with a solid-end-link bracelet has to be made to more exacting tolerances. For example the lug width tolerances of a solid-end-link bracelet watch versus a standard strap watch, is about 5 times tighter. So while this case looks simpler its actually the most expensive case we have ever made…well that is until the Sea Fighter debuts.

  12. Looks beautiful. What luminescent material will be used on the dial and hands? Also, will there be any indication on the dial that the Swiss-made version is made in Switzerland?

  13. Lume material is SuperLumiNova. There will be no indication on the dial or case that the watch is “Swiss Made”.

  14. Are you running a limited production line of the Vantage? I was wondering how many units you were planning on producing for the year.

    Comment by mark — December 14, 2007 @ 11:33 pm

  15. Hi Mark,

The production will only be limited to the number of movements available. The watches should be on-hand by the middle of January. There will be at least 100 pieces available for this year. Hopefully I can wrangle up some more movements for later in the year.
